HOCKEY 2016

The Struisies have completed a very successful hockey year, with mixed results, which indicates that we should not underestimate our opponents.
We took part in ten league matches, three ‘friendlies’ and two tournaments enabling our players to develop optimally and pit themselves against the country’s stronger hockey schools.

Thank you to all our dedicated coaches – Mr W Klopper, Mr S Terblanche, Ms Charné Dalton, Ms T Terblanche and Ms H Human.
Congratulations to our u/18A team captains, Cecilia Strydom and Christiaan Smit, with their teams’ good results. Thank you for your example, that our junior teams could look up to you and see hard work paying results.
Our umpires: Corné Fourie, Jacobus King, Amré McCallum, Cecilia Strydom, Niël Terblanche, JG Marais and Theunis Jacobs have once again done us proud. Congratulations to Corné Fourie, Jacobus King, Niël Terblanche and JG Marais who passed mini level 1. Congratulations to Cecilia Strydom who not only passed mini level 1 but was also selected to umpire for the SWD u/18 B girls at the regional tournament in Bloemfontein.

u/14B – Skye Blacquiere; Chrizanne Human; Mekeyla Greyling; Louisa Swart; Luke Jonker;
               Jared Jordaan; Sima Selani; Zeeck Rondganger and Lleythan Smith.

BOYS’ HOCKEY

For the first time ever the first team boys’ hockey attended the Fairmont hockey tournament in Cape Town this season, playing on astro. At times we played some excellent hockey and ended with a respectable twelfth position of twenty teams. We also played nine astro games this season, another first for Struisie hockey. We had good wins against/over Hugenote from Boland and also made the final of the K2 tournament, losing 1-2 against a strong Worcester Gim side.

The current grade 8 group is strong so the future of hockey in Struisie Land is looking bright.
Eleven boys received SWD colours this season. Congratulations.
